Muvattupuzha, a flourishing suburban town in Ernakulam District and lying close to the fringes of the Idukki District is an emerging agricultural and business hub; equally the haven of a highly literate people living in amity and friendship, with a number of educational institutions strewn around. As the very name suggests- 'Muvattupuzha' is the confluence of three rivers. Close to Muvattupuzha river, stands Holy Magi Church- the earliest catholic church of the locality. With the increase in Christian population, the moderate sized Holy Magi Church couldn't contain the ever swelling congregation.
Moreover for the people staying in between Holy Magi Church and St. Sebastian's Church, Anikkadu, it was difficult to travel long distances to attend the church. So the idea of a new church was mooted. On 5/4/1997, the Catholic population of the locality assembled together at Nirmala College Auditorium under the presidency of Rt. Rev. Msgr. Thomas Malekkudy to discuss the formation of a church. The need for a place of worship was highlighted and consensus was reached.
